As the spring weather approaches and we start to see the trees blossom and the flowers in bloom, we also see our children really getting into their stride with their learning. This term we have had some fantastic topics across the school: “Out of the Egg” in Reception with a village-wide dinosaur trail and a very special egg delivery; “Anglo-Saxons and Vikings” in Year Four with a real-life battle reenactment on the playground and “Crime and Punishment” through the ages in Year 6 where a mock court trial was a highlight for all.

Our Year Five children also spent some time away from the classroom learning an essential life skill: cycling safely on the roads. Our children spent a week with the Bikeability instructors from Outspoken to learn the safe skills, manoeuvres, road positions and cycle handling skills necessary to achieve their Level 2 award.

School Council have been prolific this term in their actions. Not only did they organise a mammoth cake sale and mufti day which raised £819 for the Air Ambulance, they have also surveyed children across the school and made some positive changes to our playgrounds. We look forward to continuing to see the enhancements which arise from the children’s ideas and planning. Our School Council were also delighted to welcome Earls Barton ward councillor, Councillor Lawman to one of their recent meetings. Councillor Lawman was very impressed with the way the children on our School Council conducted themselves and the great work they have done within and beyond school. Her praise went in particular to the Chair of our council: Sophie M in Year Six who apparently manages the meetings better then some adult chairs!

Fridays are always a joy in school as we hold two celebration assemblies; one in each hall to accommodate the large numbers of children here! We award stars of week, house point certificates, maths certificates and the ever-popular “Hot Chocolate Friday” with me or Mr Morris. It is great to see our children take pride in their own and each other’s achievements every Friday.

Finally, a special word of thanks to our friends at All Saints Church. Charlotte and her wonderful team have visited school to lead Easter assemblies, as well as hosting “Easter Experience” visits in the church for our Year Two and Three children and puppet shows in school for our Reception and Year One children. We are very grateful to all of the church volunteers who support our children and our school.
