Head's Update November 2024
Remembrance Day
As we always do, our whole school community came together to commemorate Remembrance Day on Monday 11th November. All 452 children plus all staff stood in respectful silence for 2 minutes after two Year Six children (Oscar and Gracie) read a Remembrance poem and we listened to the Last Post. Our children have all learned about what remembrance means and produced some poetry and artwork linked to this important commemoration. On the afternoon of Remembrance Day, our Year Two children walked to the Earls Barton village war memorial and learnt about the significance of this for the village.
Cross-Country champions – again!
Our school won the “large schools” category at the North Northamptonshire cross-country event on 20th November. This is our third consecutive win and we are very proud of the team. More importantly than winning, our team showed all of our school values and were excellent ambassadors for our school with their behaviour, sportsmanship and participation.
Building work / extension
The link corridor extension comprising of five new classrooms is in full swing with lots of progress made to provide this exciting and significant upgrade to our school. The staff car park is now finished and in use, we are just waiting for Highways to finalise the road markings required. The building work is causing some disruption to everyday school life, particularly at the start and end of the school day with reduced movement available safely between the buildings, but we are continuing to offer an excellent education to all of our children. Thanks to parents and carers for their patience and support!
Following the heavy rain in late September, our infant building was flooded and the flood water, combined with the silt and mud from the building works caused significant damage and disruption. We are still waiting for one classroom to be re-carpeted and have new floors… slowly the wheels of insurance companies and the council do turn! Once this classroom is open again to children (our lovely Snowdrops are temporarily learning in a mobile classroom), the gateway between the two school buildings will be closed permanently to allow the building work to proceed at pace, uninterrupted by pedestrians walking through.

New intake events
We had a great uptake for our Reception intake events for children starting school in September 2025. Across two daytime and one evening event, we welcomed over 100 families to our school to have a presentation from us as co-headteachers and then a tour of the whole school with our wonderful Year Six tour guides. There are 60 places available for starting at our school next September with this cohort the first to occupy our brand-new classrooms! If you missed out on the open events but would like to consider our school, please call the school office of 01604 810371 and we can make arrangements for a further event.
Real-life learning: Y4 Geography
Our Year Four children have been learning about the pros and cons of solar energy in their geography work and reviewing the plans to build a solar farm locally. The children have done lots of research on this and have held debates in class. We are excited to contribute the children’s viewpoint on this important issue to the open meeting the Parish Council are hosting at our school on 16th December.
Marie Lally & Ben Morris
Co-headteachers, on behalf of the EBPS community.
